Smokey Point Behavioral Hospital Celebrates World Mental Health Day

World Mental Health Day is Thursday, October 10th. With this in mind, we at Smokey Point Behavioral Hospital want to discuss the ever-growing need for mental health treatment services, not only in our local areas but throughout the country as well. According to the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI), 1 in 5 United States adults experiences some form of mental illness each year.

The same report goes on to list the following statistics:

  • 1 in 25 U.S. adults experience serious mental illness each year
  • 1 in 6 U.S. youth aged 6-17 experience a mental health disorder each year
  • Suicide is the 2nd leading cause of death among people aged 10-34
  • 3.7% of U.S. adults experienced a co-occurring substance use disorder and mental illness in 2018 (9.2 million people)
  • Only 43.3% of U.S. adults with mental illness received treatment in 2018
  • 64.1% of U.S. adults with serious mental illness received treatment in 2018

If you or a loved one is struggling, please seek help, you are not alone. It is important to take care of yourself mentally. Smokey Point Behavioral Hospital is an ally to those in our community, and our mission is to provide the best possible mental health care we can.
