Adolescent Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP)

Smokey Point Behavioral Hospital offers an IOP as part of the continuum of care offered for adolescents (13-17) and can be used as a step-down from inpatient care.

For Individuals Experiencing:

  • Anxiety
  • Depression
  • Emotional dysregulation
  • Mood disorder
  • Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD)





Our adolescent program curriculum includes a transgender and non-binary population track. The programs’ emphasis provides strong clinical treatments with a focus on family support and resources. Keeping family members connected with their loved ones during the treatment process is a vital step in this population.

An after-care plan is made for individuals as the next step in the continuum of care that is essential to the ongoing success of an individual as they begin their entry back into the community.

Skills Based on the Four-Core Components of Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) Are Taught:

  • Distress tolerance
  • Mindfulness
  • Emotion regulation
  • Interpersonal effectiveness

Program Components:

  • Group therapy
  • Patient-centered treatment planning with a multi-disciplinary team of psychiatric professionals.
  • Transgender and non-binary population track available, with a focus on family support.

The IOP aims to strengthen emotional and social functioning while providing the tools to return to healthy daily activities.

Sessions run typically from 8-10 weeks.
